Problem with Advertlets Polls
Sunday, September 30, 2007

there seems to be a problem with the advertlets polls on my blog. Ever since i added the code, my blog has been taking a long time to load, and sometimes, it doesn't load properly. Also, the polls are not always visible. Either that or they don't load properly and you see a little box with a red 'x' in it. I wonder if i'm the only one experiencing such problems.

well anywae, if you can see the poll, then please help me fill it in, if you can't, it's ok. If my blog doesn't load at all, or takes a looooong time to load, please let me know! Cos apparently sometimes my blog and poll loads fine on my com but has problems loading on other's coms.

Semi-addictive game:Grow Cube
Saturday, September 29, 2007

If you haven't tried Grow Cube before, you should! It's quite fun. There are 2 columns of items on the left and right, and you are supposed to select them in the correct order. Each of the items will grow with each turn, and affect each other as they grow, so you have to be careful of your clicking order! If you manage to get all in the correct order there should be a nice animation at the end and a "congratulations" banner.=)

It is quite unlikely that you will get it right on your first try cause it's mostly guesswork when you first start. After a few tries you should have observed which items require another item for it to grow fully and which items grow at a faster or slower pace. If you have a poor memory i suggest you write down the order which you clicked the items so that you can adjust your clicking order the next round and not just repeat the same mistakes. lol sounds like alot of work for a game? Well you can alwayz just keep trying until you get it.

In the event that you have tried countless times, are still unable to solve the cube and feel like screaming, leave me a comment asking for help! I think i've memorized the order by now, though i'm prone to forgetting it. =p

How to stay awake during lectures
Friday, September 28, 2007

Recess week is almost over and I've still so much work to do! Well anyway since school is starting again soon, here are some tips to keep awake in those boringgg lectures...

1. repeatedly poke the soft toy hanging on your friend's bag (or on your own if you have, but more fun to poke other people's =p)
2. poke your friend instead if no soft toys are available
3. bring a cute pencil case for everyone to play with (mine's in the shape of a Yorkshire Terrier puppy! ^^)
4. blast music out from your laptop, but make sure itz only loud enough to annoy people around you, and not loud enough for the lecturer to hear
5. play games on your laptop (make good use of those hours in lectures to level up!)
6. grab as many pens, pencils and other stationery as you can and start stacking them up, challenging yourself to create a higher stack each lecture
7. whip out your handphone and play games on it
8. sms your friends ("this lecture is sooo sian, i feel like sleeping!", "yea, me too, later we skip the next lecture la. wanna go home Zzz liao.")
9. call your friends
10. amuse yourself watching other people's head nod and sway as they take a nap
11. start tapping out a rhythm on your desk and encourage your friends to tap along 12. play games like tic-tac-toe, hangman and connect 4 on paper
13. examine the lecturer and attempt to draw a sketch of him/her on your lecture notes
14. read notes on another subject you like

and if all else fails....
15. give in to the sleepiness and drift off into dreamland...

My horrifying near-fainting experience
Tuesday, September 25, 2007

Today I almost fainted during lunch time. Maybe it's because I was too hungry, coupled with terrible cramps... ><

It was quite sudden actually. I was fine while walking to the coffeeshop with my mother. Then we ordered drinks and awhile after the drinks arrived, I suddenly felt dizzy and nauseous. Following that I started shivering uncontrollably and both my arms felt numb. At this point I was too weak to hold my head up so I had to put my head down on the table. Cold sweat soaked my clothes and dripped down my face. My lips became paler than my face (according to my mum, cos obviously i couldn't see it myself) and my numb hands also lost their colour.

My mother ordered milo for me but I only managed to drink a few mouthfuls as I didn't have the strength to hold the cup and I was feeling too sick to eat or drink anything. So in the end we "da bao" everything and I slowly made my way home.

At home i forced myself to drink the milo (while sitting on the floor moaning lol) and felt slightly better after that. And had to eat a bun too so that I could take panadol. It took me about 2 hours to slowly recover back to a normal state.

I remember the first time I ever fainted, it was in school! I think it was during sec 4. Some nurses and doctors were at my school to take blood samples to test for Hepatitis B. After they took out a tube of blood from each student, we were made to sit in the room and wait. I was wondering why they made us wait in the room for such a long time, about 1 hr plus. And I found out the reason soon enough. My vision started getting blurry so I blinked afew times, trying to clear it to no avail. Then came the dizziness and nauseous feeling, and then, a blank. After that when I came to the doctor asked me "do you always faint when withdrawing blood?" (As if I did it very frequently -.-) It was only then that I knew I had fainted haha. I was quite blur when i first came too, didn't know what had happpened. At least this experience taught me something: how to identify the signs of fainting. so now I know to sit or squat down if I experience any symptoms.

Finally had a haircut (or trim)
Monday, September 24, 2007

I finally went to get my hair trimmed after i dunno how many months. This time I went to a different salon in bedok, it's called White House salon. Previously i went to a different salon just beside them lol. I decided to try a different one cos the I wasn't really satisfied at the old salon. They made me stand to cut my hair cos it was too long. And the cut wasn't that nice anyway.

At White House salon however, the stylist actually bent down to cut my hair, and not make me stand up. also, they were much more professional and I was quite happy with the cut, though it was shorter than I wanted it. Actually i wanted to trim only 1 inch at most, but the stylist said my hair is quite dry at the ends so she told me to cut 3 inches so I said ok. But i think she ended up cutting more than that but itz ok as long as itz nice. =) My hair is so short now! From around hips previously to just below waist now I think. haha.

Oh and the stylist was also commented that for long hair, having a neat shape is important. I guess she said that cos i was trying to drag my next trim for as long as possible so my hair was kinda seriously out of shape lol. But i usually trim around once every 6 months or so? sometimes less. It depends. cos if hair grows at a rate of ard 1/2 inch per month then i gotta wait at least 6 months before cutting, if not they will kp cutting it shorter and shorter...

And the stylist also asked me a weird qns."Why did you dye your hair such a light colour? Do you like it?" Of course i like it if not i wouldn't dye it that colour rite? But the way she asked it was as if i'm the only person in the world, or maybe juz Singapore, whose hair is light-coloured. This is not the case. I'm sure there are many out there who have light-coloured hair too. Or maybe not that many in Singapore? In Japan itz rarer to see dark-haired than light-haired people.

Show Luo: Bet on it (high school musical 2)
Sunday, September 23, 2007

I caught the music video of xiao zhu singing the chinese version of "Bet on it" today on Disney Channel. It was quite a cool video, but there is something I wasn't happy about. (Has nth to do with Show of course =p) They misspelled xiao zhu's name as "Show Lo" instead of "Show Luo". How could they have made such a mistake! >=(. Actually they also spelt it wrongly previously when they were advertising the date and time of the music video. I even tried to email Disney Channel Asia to complain but somehow the email couldn't go through. They didn't provide an email address and I had to send and email through their website, but when i clicked "submit" I got an error message...=(

The Da Vinci code
Friday, September 21, 2007

I just finished reading the Da Vinci Code, and I must say it is a very engaging read! I couldn't wait to come home from school everyday just so I could feast my eyes on the novel. reading it makes me wanna go back to the Lourve again to look at the features in the paintings mentioned in the book. I went there once before but I think i was quite young at that time, so I don't remember anything. I remember taking a picture of a picture of the Mona Lisa though cos i think they didn't allow pictures of the real thing lol.

But one thing about the book is that, fact and fiction are mixed together, and thus I have no idea what to believe and what not to. I have a tendency to believe eveything in the book just because there are some facts, then I have to stop myself and question if the information is real. All the codes used in the book were very ingenious indeed! I don't think I would have been able to solve them! though of course I might have a better chance if i actually researched extensively in those areas.

Oh, and the reason i've only read the book now though itz been out for some time is that books are expensive! And I was only allowed to buy this cos the MPH at Parkway Parade had a closing down sale...

UOB campus account

I just opened a campus account with UOB this Wednesday.they credit interest into your account monthly and I really like that, I hate waiting one whole year for interest. Also they have a higher interest rate than my current POSB account so that's great too. Seriously, POSB's interest rate is too low in my opinion. Oh and this campus account is a chequeing account so you get a cheque book too! Though i doubt i'll be using it, itz cool..=p There's also a promotion going on till dec 2007 for UOB cardholders, where every $5 you charge to your card gives you 1Uni$, which when accumulated can be exchanged for great gifts.

Actually, my school has an OCBC bank with a special debit card just for the students there, but somehow I found the offers and priviledges for the UOB campus account more appealing. Also , on the OCBC page promoting the debit card, the relevant interest rates were not clearly stated and that really put me off 'cause I had to search for it in other areas of the site.

Now i'm just waiting for my personalised UOB campus account debit card to arrive! =) I need to remember to transfer my $$ over before then or else i'll have nth to spend! =p

Mind Over Stress
Tuesday, September 18, 2007

Had my mind over stress mid-term quiz today. It was quite manageable actually. At first it was supposed to be MCQ + some structured questions and the duration to be 2hrs, but then the lecturer changed it to 20 MCQ only and the duration, 1 hr. Anyway most people finished way before the 1 hr was up.

Due to the lack of space in the small LT, we were all sitting side-by-side, as opposed to sitting on alternate seats if there was enough space. Thus, this made copying very easy, especially for an MCQ paper. The guy sitting to my left knew, and exploited, this fact. Throughout the whole test he kept peering at the the answers of the guy in front, and frantically copied down his answers. His eyes were flickering from left to right too, and he kept twisting from side to side in his chair, trying to get a glimpse at his neighbours' answers. I had to constantly sheild my OAS from his peeping eyes. It was really quite stressful. And, when people started queuing up to hand in their papers, there was some noise and talking, and he took this as a sign that it was now ok for him to discuss the answers with his friends sitting around him. The lecturer, busy collecting scripts and taking attendance, didn't notice the unusual amount of talking during the QUIZ. My friend even saw some people taking out their notes to refer!

Show Luo at Plaza Singapura
Saturday, September 8, 2007

I'm so happyyyy!! today i saw xiao zhu at plaza singapura! he was there to perform the chinese version of a song from high school musical 2. Sadly though , i couldn't make it there earlier cos i had to teach tuition in the morning, so i didn't actually see him perform. I managed to see him on stage discussing his new album and saying some well wishes though. His advice for those sitting for exams soon: "Don't cheat during exams!" XD

But, too bad my hp's camera is really lousy can can't even zoom, so i couldn't get a picture of him..awww...when i get a new phone itz going to be one with a decent camera...Anyway this is the first and probably the only time i get to see him in person so i'm content enough..=)

Early..but dead
Thursday, September 6, 2007

after last wednesday's experience of being 15 mins late for my first lecture because of the super long 179 queue, i got out of the house earlier this wed, meaning i had to wake up earlier too. It was around 7.45am when i reached boon lay bus interchange and surprisingly, the queue for the 179 bus was rather short, such that i had to walk some distance before i spotted it. Last week it was so amazingly long that i joined the queue straight after i exited the mrt station. And i heard some people at the back of the queue saying that the queue actually had to loop around the mrt station as it was too long...LoL.

So anyway.. i managed to reach the lecture theatre at 8.15am, lots of time to spare, but i was so dead tired that i couldn't really concentrate during the lecture. Luckily it was a maths lecture and most of the stuff is just A level maths.

So halfway during the lecture i took out my intro to Java lab manual and started reading it cos i was getting too sleepy. And that managed to wake me up cos i was trying to remember how to implement something. Oh and one of my classmate was so late that she didn't even bother coming into the LT.hahahhaha.
