Anecdotes Of Life

UOB NOW card
Tuesday, May 27, 2008

Just received this bright red debit card with a big "NOW" across it from UOB. Apparently, they are discontinuing the Campus Debit card (which i'm currently using) from 1 July onwards. Thus this card was sent to replace it. I have to say, compared to the cool and sleek design of the Black Campus Card, this red NOW card just looks so eww..
Though it has a ezlink function too(not much use to me anyway, cannot use concession with this), but there is no NETS function, so you will have to use a separate card for NETS transactions. And the worst thing is, there is a fee waiver for only a year, and subsequently there is an annual charge of $18! The Campus Card would have been free for all my years in Uni!

The rewards system of SMART$ instead of UNI$ now seems better, but only if you frequent those participating merchants. Looking at the list, I think guardian pharmacy is the only place I might go to, and not all that frequent too. Bottom line is, I'm not going to activate this card. And it's not even worth the trouble to activate for one year and cancel it. Also, I looked at the UOB website, and the NOW card is the only debit card UOB offers now. So much for wanting to apply for the debit mini after graduation. But since the Campus Account offers higher interest rates (though still minuscule), i'll keep it open till I leave uni.

For now, my DBS capitacard is my best shopping companion. Rebates at all capitaland malls, and can be used for online transactions too(no rebates for that though). Sadly there's a fee waiver for 2 years only and a subsequent charge of $24 p.a. Seems like none of the banks offer free for life debit card anymore? Liddat how to shop online? I'm very stingy, don't wanna pay for card, but I also don't spend so much a year to be entitled for free waiver. Actually I seldom have the need for debit card, but sometimes got good discounts or want to buy something online ma. I'll probably have to resort to applying for cards that offer fee waiver and cancel them after the specified period, only to look for another such card =p.

first time at Changi Airport Terminal 3
Thursday, May 22, 2008

I changed my blogskin again, cos I couldn't stand the other one having such a narrow column for the posts. So I changed to the same one i'm using for my shop. =)

Anyway, today I went to T3 with my mother cos I wanted to go Candy Empire to buy a can of gummy bears that I saw my tuition student eating. She let me try one and it was nice la, and it's in this plastic can that looks nice too.

I expected much more shops there cos there have been quite alot of advertisements after T3 was up, and they show until like the shopping there so good and what not, but actually very few shops only, quite quiet. But maybe they were referring to the transit area, cos we could see inside through the glass and it looks quite nice.

Most of the shops are situated at B2, though some are on levels 3 and 4. But those on levels 3 and 4 quite boring, like Harris Bookstore, Lerk Thai restaurant, The Body Shop... B2 has minitoons, minibits, kopitiam, popeye's chicken, NTUC, Eu Yan Sang, a few other shops I can't remember, and of course, Candy Empire. Quite alot of interesting sweets, chocolates and biscuits in Candy Empire. I bought the can of gummies, some sort of chocolate that looks like kinder surprise, but smaller and without the surprise and something called caramelised biscuit(it's very nice, i just tried it ^^).

After that when we were exiting Candy Empire and going towards NTUC, we saw all these camera men and crew carrying the lights and all that, setting up. At first I was just wondering what they're doing. Then my mother saw someone standing at one corner and said "Eh? isn't that Fann Wong?". Erm but I couldn't see the face clearly la, cos was quite far, but the hair looks like so I said must be la. Then people walking past all stop and hang around watching them film, but we went into NTUC. (NTUC walls are glass so I could still see outside =D). All she did was walk slowly towards the camera a couple of times and they started packing up liao...no idea filming for what. Maybe there's a part in a new show where she was walking slowing in deep thought. lol cos she put her head down and hand at the chin there like thinking deeply. Maybe will see that part in some new show ba.

Anyway after I confirmed is Fann Wong liao, my mother said she din believe itz Fann Wong at first cos she was so fair and skinny. But actually I think she has always been so fair and skinny. Fann Wong mentioned before that she (and most actresses) goes for vitamin C injections to maintain her fairness. Cos normally I think cannot become so fair de unless you are ang moh.

unable to access blogtraffic.sg
Friday, May 16, 2008

i don't know if i'm the only one having this problem, but ever since i install the blogtraffic.sg tracking code on my blog, the load time has increased significantly. the status bar(is tt wad you call it?) displays the message "waiting for blogtraffic.sg..." and I have to wait like 1 min + for the page to load.

Erm, and I tried going to blogtraffic.sg to check what's going on but I was unable to access the site...

Also, I've been having pop-up advertisements recently, related to the blogtraffic.sg code. (I know this cos i removed it and the pop-ups were gone)

Does anyone know what's going on? I've removed the code for now to avoid such problems.

*I've since re-installed the code and things seem to be working fine now...hmm...

Why do dogs chase their tails?
Thursday, May 8, 2008

I was just wondering why dogs like to chase their tails cos my dog used to chase his tail when I first got him, but that behaviour didn't continue for long. So, internet research has told me that..they are simply bored in most cases. So it's like, they catch sight of something moving at the corner of their eye, and start chasing it just for something to do. Well that would explain alot cos my dog now has like 4 soft toys and 2 hard toys (all squeaky and/or crinkly when squeezed). Haha when I see cute toys I can't resist the urge to buy them. The soft toys are used as pillows at night to sleep too! That wasn't my intention at first but my clever little doggie piled up his soft toys and laid his head down on them.^_^

After that I started wondering why dogs have tails in the first place. They actually use them for balancing, though on flat ground and in normal walking conditions they serve no purpose except as a form of communication. E.g. a wagging tail shows happiness or gratitude or eagerness etc. However, when running at high speeds, their tails are very important as dogs need their tails to prevent themselves from spinning off-course when turning suddenly. As the front of the body will turn first, the back half of the body will tend to continue in the original direction. Thus, dogs will turn their tail together with the front of the body in other to balance out the weight, and in doing so avoid falling head over heels.

Also, when walking on narrow spaces, the tail can be moved left and right to shift the weight, much like how a tight rope walker balances using a long pole. Amazing how much a little tail can do!

Hello Kitty!
Sunday, May 4, 2008

My blog has been taken over by Charmmy Kitty and Sugar! Both of them are Hello Kitty's adorable pets, Charmmy Kitty(the kitten) being a present from Hello Kitty's father and Sugar(the hamster) from Dear Daniel. I just found out recently that Charmmy Kitty was Hello Kitty's pet though, I always thought she was just a more cat-like version of Hello Kitty.lol.Imagine a cat having a pet cat...

Anyways, I love the lace detail of this blog skin, but had to spend some time editing some other parts to my liking. The original skin had a white background with pink sparkles, but I thought all white was abit too glaring so I changed it to pink background with white sparkles. And there wasn't the "posted by.." and comments thing at the bottom of each post, so i had to find out how to add them. Oh I also included the permalink of each blog post in the title, and added the blog title so that navigating to the home page would be easier. lastly, I found a nifty little widget to display recent comments too. =) Too bad i can't do anything to expand the column for posts, itz abit narrow...

But, enuff about that, this post will be dedicated to showing some cute Hello Kitty stuff I found during my search for a Hello Kitty themed blog skin, which seriously turned on my Hello Kitty craziness. =D Feel like getting a Hello Kitty wallet...Something like this:

Or this:

would be cute.^_^ but Hello Kitty stuff are ex..$_$ so wait for those pasar malam heh heh..

And I realise, Hello Kitty has also taken over almost every object you can think of; iron, fan, laptop, thumbdrive, calculator, vacuum cleaner...just to name afew. One which really caught my eye was this Hello Kitty toaster:

The bread is almost too cute to eat!Speaking of which, here's a clip of too good to eat bento, featuring some Hello Kitty and sanrio characters:

And then there's the Hello Kitty mobile phone. There are clamshell, touch screen, candy bar and sliding ones but since i like clamshell phones best i'll only show that here:

and it comes with loads of cute, pink Hello kitty accessories!

I also found a couple of online shops selling Hello Kitty stuff, visit them for more Hello Kitty cuteness:
DreamKitty.com
My Kitty Love
And of course the official sanrio shop:
Sanrio shop

And to round things off, take a look at this clip of a Hello Kitty themed wedding in Hong Kong! It's like the perfect wedding to have all Hello Kitty stuff and to have Hello Kitty and Dear Daniel as your bridesmaid. (all the flowers are shaped like Hello Kitty too!)
Everything is so pretty!
